Gov. Noem Stands Against Centralized Digital Currency in Veto Decision

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem explains why she vetoed a central bank digital currency bill on ’Tucker Carlson Tonight’ and how it’s a threat to American privacy.

Gov. Kristi Noem: This is a threat to our freedom

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has vetoed a bill that would have paved the way for central bank digital currencies in the state. The bill was sold as an update to the guidelines of the Universal Commercial Code but included a section that changed the definition of currency. This would have allowed for a government-led central digital currency and banned any other form of cryptocurrency. Noem has asked legislators to kill the bill entirely and protect the state’s autonomy. Similar language is coming to over 20 other states, which Noem says is a way for the federal government to control people.

Noem claims that if the government controls people’s money and can zero out their bank accounts, then they have no autonomy, and the government controls them. She says this is a tool for total social control and that it should be alarming to everyone. Noem finds it ironic that the same discussion about controlling gun and ammunition purchases is happening at the same time as this discussion about digital currency. If the government does not approve of what people are buying, they can control how they spend their money, and thus take away all of their freedom.

When asked whether legislators understood the implications of the bill, Noem said that she did not know if they read it. Lobbyists had told them it was just a regulation update and nothing to worry about. However, when Noem read it, she found it alarming. The bill is over 110 pages long and includes a redefinition of currency that limits people’s freedom to use other forms of currency if they choose to.
